Oil on canvas signed ‘Lochard’, large size (100 x 65 cm)
Félix Lochard (1874-1951) was an illustrator known for his advertising work for many brands.
This artwork depics a scene in which a merchant is showing beautiful fabric to high-ranking ladies.
The date of creation is estimated to be early 20th century (1900-1930). The canvas has been re-mounted. Some visible signs of restoration (see photos):
Tears in the canvas restored and repainted:
- under the “P” and between the “I” and the “O” of Pygmalion
- in the fabric of the sleeve of the lady in red in the background.
Nevertheless, the work remains of real interest because of its rarity, its aesthetics, its size and the dramaturgy of the scene.
