Ancient Roman Bronze Statuette of Hermes (Mercury) in expressive style, elegant posture and beautiful proportions
Approx. 100-200 AD.
Good antique condition. A rich patina and in a good state of conservation with the arms and legs largely missing. On the back a collection no.
This bronze figure of the God of Trade is naked except for a cloak. Which hangs from the left shoulder and is loosely draped over the shoulder, chest and back. The muscular torso and body parts come out well.

The statue itself is 4.6 cm and with stand is 7.2 cm high, and 2.2 cm wide, and was probably found in the 1960s and possibly as early as the 19th century in the Maas region near Rekem (Belgium). The perspex base is 4.5 cm in diameter where the statue hangs on a holder.

Provenance: from a Dutch private collection and obtained from an inheritance. Bought around 1990 in Maastricht from an antique dealer.
Earlier provenance: J.P. S collected in the 1960's

This bronze figure of the God of Commerce is naked except for one cloak. Hanging from the left shoulder and draped loosely over the shoulder, chest and back. The muscular torso and body parts are good.

The statue itself is 4.6 cm and with stand it is 7.2 cm high, and 2.2 cm wide, and found, probably in the 60's and possibly already in the 19th century, in the Meuse region near Rekem (Belgium). The pedestal of perspex is 4.5 cm in diameter where the statue hangs on a holder.

Provenance: from a Dutch private collection and from an inheritance. Bought around 1990 in Maastricht from an antique dealer.
