LGB - 20892 - Sumpter Valley - Mallet 251. In the 1920s, the Baldwin Locomotive Works built two 2-6-6-2 "Mallets" specifically for the railways. This large LGB model is an authentic replica of the original No. 51. This model features two drive-train sets that allow the huge model to negotiate even the tightest radius curved sections of LGB rails. LGB digital electronics reproduces the actual sound of a real steam locomotive, including exhaust exhalations, coal shovelling, braking sounds and more. There's even a flickering flame in the fire-box. In the 1920s, the Uintah Railway in Utah and Colorado bought two modern Mallet locomotives from Baldwin. When service on the Uintah Railway was halted, these two powerful Mallets were sold to the Sumpter Valley Railway, that connected rural towns in Oregon. The locomotives were equipped with tenders and were swiftly deployed to haul most of the trains on this scenic route. After the Sumpter Valley railway closed down, the Mallets were sold to Guatemala, where they were deployed with the International Railroad of Central America until the 1960s.
