The normal jackal, gold jackal , gold wolf or reed wolf (Canis aureus) is a medium sized canine from the genus Canis. Despite its name, it is probably not very closely related to the saddle Jackal (Canis mesomelas) and the striped Jackal (Canis adustus), but it is closer related to the coyote (Canis latrans) and the wolf (Canis lupus).
